ManyChat Pricing Explained (2026): What You Actually Pay
ManyChat pricing in 2026, explained: active contacts, plan tiers, overage and WhatsApp fees, and when a fixed monthly plan costs you less.

The short answer
ManyChat pricing is based on active contacts: every person you message, or who messages you, in a billing month. As checked in October 2026, Essential costs $14 a month billed yearly ($17 monthly) for 250 active contacts and Pro costs $29 billed yearly ($39 monthly) for 2,500, with a charge for each extra contact. WhatsApp starts on Pro, and Meta bills its message fees separately.
Most people who search for ManyChat pricing are really asking a second question: what will the bill look like after a post takes off? With ManyChat the answer depends less on the plan you pick and more on how many different people you talk to each month. This guide explains how that count works, what the plans cost today, the costs that sit outside the plan, and the point at which a fixed monthly plan becomes the cheaper choice.
How ManyChat pricing works: active contacts
Since 2 March 2026 ManyChat bills by active contacts, as its own pricing announcement explains. An active contact is a real person you interact with during a monthly billing period. According to ManyChat's help article on active contacts, it does not matter whether that interaction comes from an automation, the AI, a broadcast or a person typing in the Inbox. The same person messaging you ten times in a month still counts once.
- Someone who comments a keyword and receives your automatic DM counts, because a message was sent to them.
- Everyone who receives a broadcast counts, even if they never reply.
- A regular customer who orders every week counts once per month, not once per order.
- A contact who stays silent all month and receives nothing does not count that month.

What you pay beyond the plan
- Extra active contacts. Go over your plan's number and each extra person is charged, or you move up a tier.
- Meta's WhatsApp fees. These are never part of any tool's plan. Since 1 October 2026, replies inside the 24-hour window are free for the first 1,000 per number per month and then charged at your market's utility rate; template messages are charged per delivered message by country and category; conversations that start from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad or a Page button are free for 72 hours.
- Team seats. The number of people who can answer in the Inbox depends on the plan, so a growing team can push you up a tier even when contacts do not.
- Connectors for bookings and orders. ManyChat books appointments through a calendar app or Zapier, and orders need Zapier or Make. Those are separate subscriptions with their own limits.
- Build time. Every question you want answered automatically is a flow someone has to build and keep up to date, or an AI step someone has to configure.
A worked example: what one viral reel can cost
Take a clothing shop on Pro, billed monthly at $39 with 2,500 active contacts included. In a normal month about 1,500 different people message the shop. Then a reel takes off and 4,000 people comment “price”, and each gets an automatic DM. That month the shop has roughly 5,500 active contacts: 3,000 above the plan. At about $0.05 each, that is around $150 on top of the $39, before any WhatsApp fees from Meta.
The point is the direction, not the exact invoice: whether ManyChat charges the overage or moves you up a tier depends on your plan and settings. What matters is that the bill follows your busiest month, and your busiest month is usually the one where cash is tied up in stock.
When a fixed monthly plan is cheaper than ManyChat pricing
| Your situation | Contact-based pricing | Fixed monthly plan |
|---|---|---|
| Under 250 different people a month, mostly Instagram | Cheap and a good fit | Often costs more |
| Comment-to-DM campaigns that sometimes go viral | Bill rises with every spike | Same bill every month |
| Monthly broadcasts to a large list | Every recipient counts as active | Limited by the plan and Meta's fees, not per person |
| Many new customers each month (restaurant, clinic, shop) | Grows with your customer count | Predictable until you reach a plan limit |
| Need AI answers, bookings and orders in one place | Plan plus connectors and setup | Depends on whether they are included |
A simple rule: count the different people you talk to in a normal month across comments, DMs and broadcasts, then add your biggest campaign. If that number sits comfortably inside a low tier, contact-based pricing is fair. If it swings by thousands from month to month, a fixed plan protects you from your own success.
Estimate your own bill in ten minutes
- 1Count the different people who messaged or commented in the last 30 days, per channel. Your Page and Instagram inbox show this.
- 2Add the size of any list you broadcast to at least once a month.
- 3Add the expected commenters from your largest planned campaign.
- 4Pick the tier that covers the normal month, then multiply the excess in your peak month by the overage rate.
- 5Add Meta's WhatsApp fees and any Zapier or Make plan you would need for bookings or orders.
ManyChat alternatives with fixed pricing
ManyChat stays a strong choice for creators who grow an Instagram audience, for anyone who wants a free plan, and for teams that need SMS or email in the same tool. Chatmizer is built for a different job: businesses whose customers message to buy or book. Its plans are monthly and not priced by active contacts, AI replies come with the plan as AI credits, and bookings, orders and a shared inbox are built in. It has no free-forever plan (there is a free trial without a card), no SMS and no website chat widget. Chatmizer vs ManyChatFrequently asked questions
How much does ManyChat cost per month?
As checked in October 2026: Essential is $14 a month billed yearly or $17 monthly for 250 active contacts, and Pro is $29 a month billed yearly or $39 monthly for 2,500. Larger Business and Advanced plans exist. Extra active contacts and Meta's WhatsApp fees come on top.
What is an active contact in ManyChat?
A real person you interact with during a monthly billing period, through an automation, the AI, a broadcast or the Inbox. The same person counts once a month however many messages you exchange.
Is ManyChat free?
There is a free plan, but its contact and automation limits make it a testing tool rather than something to run a business on. Serious use starts at Essential, and WhatsApp needs Pro.
Does ManyChat charge for WhatsApp messages?
The WhatsApp message fees come from Meta, not from ManyChat. Since 1 October 2026 the first 1,000 service replies per number each month are free and then charged at the utility rate, and template messages are charged per delivered message.
Is ManyChat worth it for a small Instagram shop?
Often yes, if your audience is small and steady and you mainly need comment-to-DM and simple flows. It gets expensive when campaigns bring thousands of new people in a month, or when you need bookings and orders that require extra tools.
Is there a cheaper alternative to ManyChat?
It depends on your numbers. A tool with fixed monthly plans is usually cheaper for businesses with large or spiky audiences. Compare both pricing pages against the number of different people you talk to each month.
