WhatsApp Business Number Banned? Why It Happens and How to Recover
WhatsApp Business number banned? The real reasons, the official appeal route for the app and the API, and how to stop it happening again.

The short answer
A WhatsApp Business number banned by WhatsApp can only come back through WhatsApp's own review: Request a review in the app, or request a review of the violation in Meta Business Support Home if you use the Business Platform. No tool, agency or paid service can lift a ban. Most bans come from unofficial bulk senders, spam reports and blocks, or a policy breach, so fix the cause before you appeal.
It usually happens on a busy morning: the app stops sending, or a notice says the number can no longer use WhatsApp. For a shop or clinic that takes most of its orders and bookings in chat, that is the till closing. This guide covers what kind of block you actually have, why it happened, the only official ways back, and how to run a number that does not get banned again.
Banned, restricted or limited: find out which one you have
| What you see | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The app says the number is temporarily banned and shows a timer | WhatsApp detected an unofficial or modified app | Wait for the timer, then move to the official app |
| The app says the number is banned, with no timer | A ban for a Terms of Service breach | Request a review in the app |
| On the Business Platform, you can't start conversations or send templates for a period | A restriction after a policy or spam violation | Read the violation in Business Support Home; request a review or wait |
| On the Business Platform, the WhatsApp account is disabled | Repeated or severe violations | Request a review in Business Support Home |
| Your quality rating dropped or your messaging limit stopped growing | A warning, not a ban | Slow down and fix what people block or report |
The difference matters. A temporary ban ends on its own if you stop using the unofficial app. A restriction on the Business Platform also ends after its period. Only a full ban or a disabled account needs an appeal to have any chance of coming back.
Why WhatsApp Business numbers get banned
- Unofficial bulk senders and modified apps. The tools that log in by scanning a QR code and blast thousands of messages, and modified versions of the app, break WhatsApp's Terms. WhatsApp's own help article on unofficial apps warns that using them can get an account temporarily or permanently banned. Its Terms say plainly that its products are not intended for bulk or automated messaging.
- Many blocks and spam reports in a short time. Messaging people who never asked to hear from you, a bought or scraped list, or adding strangers to groups. Each block and report is a signal, and a burst of them is enough.
- Selling what WhatsApp's Commerce Policy does not allow. Some product categories are not permitted on WhatsApp at all, whatever tool you use.
- On the Business Platform, breaking the Business Messaging Policy. For example, marketing templates sent without opt-in, or, since 15 January 2026, running a general-purpose AI assistant as the main thing the number offers.
How to recover a banned WhatsApp Business number
On the WhatsApp Business app
- 1Open the WhatsApp Business app on the phone with the banned number and tap Request a review when it appears.
- 2Enter the 6-digit code WhatsApp sends by SMS to prove you own the number.
- 3Explain briefly who you are and how you use WhatsApp: your business name, what you sell, and that customers contact you first.
- 4If you used an unofficial tool, say you have stopped and removed it.
- 5Wait for the answer in the app. Do not register the number on other devices or apps meanwhile.
On the WhatsApp Business Platform
- 1Open Business Support Home in Meta Business Suite and select the affected WhatsApp Business account.
- 2Read the violation: it names the policy, shows what was allowed or not, and says what restriction is active.
- 3Choose Request review if it is offered, and describe the corrective action you have taken.
- 4Wait for the decision, which arrives in Business Manager. Provider guides report it usually takes one to two days.
- 5If no review is offered, wait for the restriction to end. Meta's enforcement page says not every spam violation can be appealed.
A short, factual appeal works better than a long angry one. Something like this:
We are a clothing shop in Alexandria. Customers contact us after seeing our Instagram and Facebook posts, and we use WhatsApp to answer their questions and confirm orders. Last week we used a bulk sending tool for a sale announcement; we have stopped using it and deleted it. From now on we only message customers who contact us first or who asked to receive offers.
What nobody can do for you
Services that promise to un-ban a WhatsApp number for a fee cannot do anything you cannot do yourself, because the only decision-maker is WhatsApp's review. The same goes for software providers, Chatmizer included: no platform can lift a ban or a restriction. A provider can help you understand the violation and move to a way of messaging that stays inside the rules, and that is all.
If the ban stays: starting again on a new number
- 1Get a number you control for the long term, registered to the business, not to an employee who might leave.
- 2Tell existing customers where to find you: a pinned post and stories on Instagram and Facebook, your Google Business profile, and your packaging.
- 3Go on the official WhatsApp Business Platform if you send to more than a handful of people. Our guide to the WhatsApp Business app vs the API explains the difference.
- 4Let the number build a reputation. New numbers start with low messaging limits that grow as people engage instead of blocking you.
- 5Message only people who opted in, and use approved templates outside the 24-hour window.
How to keep the new number safe
- Collect opt-in where customers give their number, in plain words: “Can we send you offers on WhatsApp?”
- Send fewer, more relevant broadcasts, segmented by what people bought or asked about. Our guide to sending a WhatsApp broadcast without getting blocked goes step by step.
- Make leaving easy: “Reply STOP and we won't send offers again”, and respect it every time.
- Watch your quality rating and messaging limit in WhatsApp Manager after every campaign.
- Answer fast inside the 24-hour window. A customer who waits a day is more likely to block you than one who got an answer.
- Use AI only to answer questions about your own business: products, prices, bookings and orders. Meta's 2026 rules allow that and forbid a general assistant.
One honest note on cost: the official platform is not free. Since 1 October 2026, replies inside the 24-hour window are free for the first 1,000 per number per month and then charged at the market's utility rate, and templates are charged per delivered message by country and category. It still costs far less than losing a number every few months.
Chatmizer runs on the official WhatsApp Business Platform: an AI agent that answers in Arabic and English, approved templates, opt-in broadcasts and a quality view for your number. It needs a number that is not active in the WhatsApp app.
WhatsApp chatbot on the official platformFrequently asked questions
Can a banned WhatsApp number be unbanned?
Sometimes. If WhatsApp's review finds the ban was a mistake, or accepts that you fixed the cause, the number comes back. Permanent bans for unofficial bulk tools are rarely reversed. Only WhatsApp decides.
How long does a WhatsApp ban review take?
Provider guides report that Business Platform reviews usually come back within one to two days, through Business Manager. App reviews answer inside the app; there is no published guarantee for either.
Why was my WhatsApp Business number banned without warning?
The usual causes are an unofficial sender or modified app, a burst of blocks and spam reports, or a product WhatsApp does not allow. On the Business Platform, check Business Support Home: the violation and the policy are listed there.
Are bulk WhatsApp sender programs safe?
No. Tools that log in by QR code and send in bulk break WhatsApp's Terms, which say WhatsApp is not intended for bulk or automated messaging. Sending to many people safely means the official Business Platform, approved templates and opted-in contacts.
Can a company unban my number if I pay?
No. Neither an agency nor a software provider can lift a ban; only WhatsApp's review can. Treat any paid un-ban offer as a scam.
Will the official WhatsApp API protect me from bans?
Not by itself. It removes the risk that comes from unofficial tools, but numbers on the official platform are still restricted for spam, missing opt-in or policy breaches. Good habits keep the number safe.
